Medicare Is Only One Piece of Your Retirement Picture

If you’ve been our client for any length of time, you probably know we get asked about a lot more than Medicare.

When should I take Social Security?

Do I need long-term care insurance?

How do I know if I’ll have enough money to retire?

What happens financially if something happens to me or my spouse?

And one of our personal favorites: “Katie, I know this isn’t Medicare, but can I ask you something?”

Of course you can. 😊

The problem is that some of those questions go beyond what our Insurance Gal team does every day. We never want to pretend to be experts in an area where we aren’t. But we also don’t want to respond with, “Sorry, can’t help you there. Good luck!” That’s not exactly our style.

So, we found someone we trust.

We are excited to introduce Chani M. Bergen, FSCP®, a trusted resource we have partnered with to help our clients think through some of the financial questions that go beyond Medicare.

Chani can help you start conversations about things like retirement income, Social Security, long-term care, and protecting the people you love.

And notice that we said start conversations.

You do not need to show up with a perfectly organized financial plan, a color-coded spreadsheet, and your retirement figured out down to what you’ll eat for breakfast on your first Tuesday as a retiree.

You can simply have questions.

That’s exactly where the conversation can begin.

One of the biggest misconceptions about retirement planning is that it’s something you do when retirement is right around the corner.

In reality, many of these conversations are incredibly valuable years before you retire.

If you’re in your 40s or 50s, retirement may still feel comfortably far away. But this is often when you have something extraordinarily valuable on your side:

Time.

Time to understand what you already have.

Time to identify potential gaps.

Time to consider how Social Security might eventually fit into your retirement income.

Time to think about how a long-term care event could affect your plans.

And time to make thoughtful decisions instead of trying to solve everything at age 64½ because Medicare just sent you a small library of mail and suddenly retirement feels VERY real.

Planning early doesn’t mean you need to have every answer today. It means giving yourself more options for tomorrow.

This is one of the reasons we wanted to partner with Chani.

Medicare doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

Your health coverage, retirement income, Social Security decisions, potential long-term care needs, and the financial security of the people you love are all pieces of a much larger picture.

We want to continue being the team you trust for Medicare and health insurance. And when your questions extend beyond our area of expertise, we want to be able to say:

“We know someone we trust who can help you explore that.”

That someone is Chani.

Chani offers our clients a no-cost consultation to talk through your questions and help you determine what may deserve a closer look.

There is no requirement that you have everything figured out before you meet with her. In fact, figuring out what questions you should be asking can be one of the most valuable parts of the conversation.

Whether retirement is two years away, ten years away, or still far enough away that you refuse to use the word “retirement” in polite company, it’s worth understanding how the pieces of your financial picture fit together.

Because retirement planning shouldn’t begin the day you retire.

The earlier you start asking good questions, the more time you have to create good answers.
