CBD Products: Possible Health Benefits

Updated: May 5, 2022

CBD, or cannabidiol, is an extract derived from cannabis plants. CBD contains little to no tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the chemical that produces a high. But could CBD safely offer health benefits you may not know about?

Here are a few possible benefits that researchers are exploring:

Lower anxiety and depression

If you have anxiety or depression and traditional treatments haven’t worked or have caused unwanted side effects, you may be looking for other options. Researchers are examining CBD products as possible alternatives. Studies show CBD might help, but we don’t have clear answers yet.

Help with sleep

Getting enough sleep is important to function well. If you’re having trouble sleeping, research shows taking CBD might help. Again, encouraging studies have been done, but we need more evidence.

Ease PTSD symptoms

You may be able to use CBD to help treat symptoms of PTSD. Research shows that CBD can help relieve anxiety, improve sleep and alleviate symptoms in children and adults.

Relieve pain and inflammation

CBD could be a safer alternative for people with chronic pain who have relied on medications such as opiates. Scientists studying CBD’s effects found it could help reduce inflammation and pain.

Research on the medical use of CBD products is ongoing. Caution must be taken due to dosing concerns, quality issues, potential drug interactions and possible side effects, so discuss CBD with your doctor before you try it. Still, it appears there may be truth to the claims that CBD can help treat certain health conditions.
